Tips on writing and publishing

Rob Weir is an editor of a jounal writes in Inside HigherEd on writing for publication.

Here is the link. It is an easy read  and there are some comments as well, which you may find of use. I particularly like the admission of “the dirty little secret”

He also refers to work done by others. I list them below in no particular order.

An article on the peer review process in Wikipedia  at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer_review.

Yes, I know its Wikipedia, but it is a good article that explains the process of refereeing very well.

Kathryn Hewlett writes a very clear and easy to read article, with practical advise on “How to publish your journal paper” at http://www.apa.org/monitor/sep02/publish.html

The Journal of scholarly publishing http://www.utpjournals.com/jsp/jsp.html tracks development and trends in the scholarly publsihing field.  I think this is going to become a personal favourite of mine.

If you are at Tukkies the journal is available electronically from 1997 with a 6 month embargo from Ebsco’s Academic Search Premier and the hard copy is on level 5 at 020 JOU.

Finally, Alison Jones at Auckland also with very sound practical advise at

PALIS

PALIS is the acronym for Practice and Art of Library and Information Science. It is to be a journal for and by practicing librarians in South Africa.

There are a few things that we need to decide about this journal.
In my next blog, I will share with you a conversation via e-mail that I have had with Wynand from SABINET. If I can find the e-mail.

I have started a wiki – where we can collaborate on documents about PALIS.
